Platform Engineer

Join a global, forward thinking tech company at a pivotal moment of transformation. As they evolve their platform strategy and modernise decades of organically grown infrastructure, they're looking for a Platform Engineer to help lay the foundations for scalable, secure, and developer friendly systems.

This is a unique opportunity to design and deliver the internal platforms, tooling, and workflows that will power future growth. With over 1,000 employees worldwide and a 30 year track record of innovation, the business is now embracing a more mature DevOps mindset and you'll be instrumental in defining how things are done, not just maintaining what already exists.

The Organisation

This is a global technology company at the forefront of innovation, developing advanced solutions that integrate AI, deep learning, and next generation hardware. Their cutting edge technology is widely used worldwide, driving secure, automated processes and digital transformation on a large scale. With a strong focus on growth and platform modernisation, they're creating the foundations for the future of intelligent systems.

After decades of steady growth, the company is now shifting into a more modern, agile, and platform led approach and this is where you come in.

The Platform Engineering function is still in its early stages. You'll be the first dedicated Platform Engineer, joining a team focused on embedding DevOps thinking, modern tooling, and repeatable, secure, self service workflows across the business.

The Role

This isn't just a DevOps role. This is about laying the groundwork for long term platform excellence. You'll be designing and implementing reusable templates, automated infrastructure, developer workflows, and platform tooling that make building, testing, and deploying software faster and safer.

You'll work across Azure, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Terraform - but this isn't about sticking to the status quo. The team values curiosity and open minds: if there's a better tool, process, or approach, they want to hear it.

You'll need to be confident, collaborative, and comfortable making decisions in a greenfield environment. If you've ever wanted the chance to create the kind of platform you wish you'd inherited, this is it.

What You'll Do

** Build the foundations of an internal platform that empowers teams to deploy, test, and scale with minimal friction

** Develop reusable templates, automation tools, and workflows that make infrastructure easy to use and hard to misuse

** Use tools like Terraform to bring consistency, traceability, and clarity to cloud infrastructure across environments

** Introduce best practices for security, deployment, and operations and embedding them into the platform from day one

** Replace ad hoc, manual tasks with smart automation and intuitive self service solutions

** Work closely with developers and engineers to understand challenges and deliver practical, developer friendly tooling

** Contribute to a culture of innovation where trial, error, and continuous improvement are part of daily life

What You'll Bring

** Solid experience in a platform focused engineering role , whether in DevOps, SRE, or internal tooling

** A strong grasp of cloud infrastructure, preferably Azure, but AWS or GCP experience can be considered

** Proficiency in a scripting or programming language e.g. Python, Bash, or Go

** Familiarity with container platforms like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes

** Confidence working with modern CI CD systems and automation pipelines

** Hands on experience with infrastructure as code frameworks e.g. Terraform

** An understanding of monitoring, logging, and alerting practices, using tools like Datadog

** A curious mindset, always looking for better ways to solve problems and improve developer experience

** The confidence to lead technical direction and the humility to learn and adapt along the way

What You'll Get

You'll be joining a company that values curiosity, creativity, and people who want to make things better not just maintain the status quo. This is a 6 month fixed term contract (with the opportunity to go perm). They are offering a salary of £70,000 and they work three days a week onsite at their modern, well equipped offices in Oldham. It's a flexible, supportive environment where experimentation is encouraged, learning is part of the culture, and mistakes are seen as part of progress. Whether you're looking to grow your skills, influence platform direction, or explore new technologies, this is a place where your ideas will be heard and your impact will be visible.

If you're looking for a role where you can have real influence, work on meaningful tech, and help bring structure to a growing global platform, this is a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact.

I have had dealings with the majority of recruitment agencies in this country and beyond. He really stands out from the crowd and the IT industry would benefit from more people like him.

Software Developer – Glasgow

A friend looking after me, that’s how I felt. His friendly character made the whole process way easier and enjoyable, he also managed to get me one of the most interesting work opportunities. I’m really glad our paths have crossed.

Software Engineer - Edinburgh

He stood out in a world of poorly informed, unreliable and frankly annoying recruiters as a breath of fresh air.

Data Scientist – Manchester

Equal parts friendly and professional, never once coming across as simply going through the motions and made the whole thing as painless as possible for all parties

Software Developer – Glasgow

I can say with total sincerity I’ve never dealt with a more professional, knowledgeable and personable recruitment firm in fifteen years of contracting. They helped my wife and I relocate to Edinburgh with our five month old son and it’s in no small part to their tips and recommendations that we’ve settled in so quickly.

Transformation Consultant – Leeds

She even was able to help get a firmer offer as I was offered two roles on the same day. I felt she went over and above to get the best offer she could for me without selling myself short.

QA Engineer – Glasgow

THE BEST test recruiter I’ve had the pleasure of working with, from start to finish. She provided me with training resources and is an organiser and participant in testing events. She really has taken the time to fully understand the testing principles.

Test Analyst – Aberdeen

I’ve never written a recommendation for a recruiter before, so it must show how impressed I am!

Software Developer – Northampton

It was a breath of fresh air – She is professional and approachable and will be there to help you every step of the way. Other recruiters give you the hard sell and the ‘best friend routine’ to get you on board and then just leave you guessing, but not here… She’s the real deal

Solutions Architect – Glasgow

He is the most honest, thorough and experienced recruitment consultant I have ever dealt with. If he can’t help you, he’ll tell you rather than spinning a yarn and putting you forward for jobs that aren’t suitable.

Technical Author – Edinburgh

She was friendly, communicative and informative, talked me through the process and gave me good advice at every stage.

Software Engineer – Manchester

He goes out of his way to ensure you are prepared for your interview and I particularly appreciated his professional no nonsense approach to working with me to find a new position.

Infrastructure Architect – Glasgow

Never have a I met a recruiter like him, who embeds himself in the community so thoroughly in a way that could only be genuine. From our conversations, he has shown an understanding of the industry I would expect from a local CTO.

MI Analyst – Bolton

Absolutely fantastic throughout my interview process, and I cannot recommend him highly enough! First of all, he is an absolutely brilliant communicator and extremely reliable. On top of all of his brilliant recruitment skills, it was amazing to see how genuinely excited he was for me when I received my offer. This truly conveyed to me how much he cares about his clients.

Software Engineer – Edinburgh

Compared to other recruiters I have worked with she seemed genuinely interested in helping me with my job search rather than just fulfilling quotas.

Software Developer – Lincoln
