If you’ve already listened to the first round of How AI Built This, you might remember Liam speaking to Jo Watts, founder of Edinburgh based data start-up Effini. For episode 6, he sat down with Samantha Rhynas, Effini’s Head of Data. In addition to her work at Effini, leading the way to identify innovative solutions for clients, she is also a well-known face in the Edinburgh tech scene. Samantha runs and organises GirlGeek Scotland, a volunteer community aimed at women working and studying in tech, creativity, computing, enterprise, and related sectors in Scotland, and she runs the Edinburgh Chapter of PyData. Liam caught up with Samantha to find out how she got into data, and how on earth she has the time to be so involved in the tech community!
We all know that AI and machine learning can do a lot of cool things, and How AI Built This was started to find the people doing those cool things. Euan Wielewski is one of those people. As co-founder and CEO of Anomalous Technologies, an Edinburgh based AI start-up, Euan and his co-founder Matt have developed a product which can literally stop planes falling out of the sky using AI. Tune in to find out about Euan’s background, his career path, and the important lessons he learned when he started Anomalous.
Episode 8 saw Liam sit down with Jennifer Stark, Lead Data Engineer at LADbible group in Manchester. When she’s not at her day job, Jennifer is busy organising and supporting events in the North West Data Community. She organises PyDataMCR, and is a regular speaker at Her+Data and MancML (if you’d like to find out more about MancML, do get in touch with Liam Wilson).
Luke Grimes is the Head of Digital Services at ANS Group, a digital services and cloud company based in Manchester. Luke works with customers all over the UK to help them understand what is possible with AI and technology in general, and supports them in finding the best way to harness today’s tech for their organisation.
Tune in to Episode 10 to hear the first remote How AI Built This! Lockdown couldn’t stop it going ahead, and Liam was lucky enough to (virtually) sit down with Craig Mackay. Craig is the CEO & Co-Founder of Sharktower, where he and the team have developed a product which helps organisations spot problems in their project deliveries before they even happen, using data in various clever ways. On this episode, Liam and Craig talk through the projects Craig has worked on throughout his career, before moving on to how he developed the cutting edge tech at Sharktower HQ.
