Test Engineer required for a (city centre) company in Glasgow offering a 4-day working week.
This company is one of those genuinely nice to work for places. Their founder is one of the good guys who cares about his staff, being transparent about the company's successes and aims, implementing a four-day work week, and investigating the option for part-remote working post COVID. It doesn't hurt that the company are in the medical field, so you get to go to work every day knowing that you are doing good!
They have a core product and are in the process of developing some new products. Over the last couple of years, the test team's aim has been to automate tests as much as possible (where appropriate and relevant!). Although there will always be an element of manual testing, the core element of this role will be creating automation test scripts from scratch, as well as editing and maintaining the automated tests already in place.
If you feel like you're at a more senior spot in your career, you could potentially join as more of a Test Lead instead (compensated of course). Where you'd be involved in reviewing the standards of code for the writing of automated test scripts, along with manual test case review. Guiding and mentoring a team of testers to ensure quality is withheld in line with company standards. If that's where you're looking to take your career!
As a Test Engineer you will ideally have most of the following skills/experience:
** Automation testing experience - creating test scripts from scratch, ideally with Selenium/Protractor
** JavaScript to automate tests
** Testing web platforms
** API testing and UI testing
** Agile experience
** Linux operating systems knowledge would be a bonus (e.g. Ubuntu)
** Strong attention to detail and best practices - as a medical focused company, documentation needs to be of a high standard.
The company are passionate about developing their employee's skills - one example is that the Test Engineers are encouraged to take official testing certifications (think ISTQB etc.) to develop solid skills.
They offer core hours from 10am - 3:30pm and it's a 34-hour work week where you will be able to make up the rest of your hours at a time that works for you. Right now, they operate on a hybrid working pattern but there is the option for fully remote working The salary on offer is from £32,000-£40,000 depending on experience.
