Head of Development required for a SaaS software start-up based out of London.

The company

They have recently separated from their parent business, and are starting out as a new entity. The business is developing a SaaS Platform, that essentially allows their customers to procure goods in a fast and easy manner using Artificial Intelligence. They are already in a great spot, as already have the customer base for their services from household names such as Vodafone and Amazon, and with financial security from their parent company.

The business is already nearly 100 strong, and they have plans to add another 10-15 individuals to the Dev team this year - this position is a brand new one also. The role will ideally be based from London, with the company operating a hybrid work model. The expectations are to be in office at least twice a week.

The role

This is a newly created position and will report into the CTO. You will initially come in to manage an outsourced development team, followed by an internal team that will be hired after you. At the moment the outsourced team is 12 Developers and they have recently released version 1 of the SaaS Platform, with it likely version 2 will be released in October/November time.

You will be primarily there to manage the team of Engineers, as well as making sure the quality of code remains high, there are proper QA and Test functions in place, as well as being the "final sign-off" individual. You will most likely be from a hands-on Software background and moved into the management space, still with a technical eye.

You will need to make key technical and architectural decisions, alongside the Software Architect (already internal). On top of this, you will oversee the selection and integration of new tools and technologies, alongside frameworks, in order to ensure alignment with current and future development needs. From a coding perspective, this will likely be limited however you may need to often perform code reviews and audit the codebases - a technical eye as mentioned, is important.

Key Skills and Responsibilities:

** Having managed a team of Software Engineers across a thriving, product first business

** The ability to make key architectural and technical decisions that align with business objectives and ensure the scalability, performance, and security of applications

** Likely coming from a Software Engineer, hands on background

** The ability to establish and enforce coding standards, code review processes, and best practices to maintain high levels of code quality and consistency across teams

** Able to implement and maintain efficient QA procedures, including automated testing, to ensure the reliability and performance of all software solutions

** Stay abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies in the development space, evaluating their potential impact on current and future projects

** The ability to act as the primary technical point of contact for other departments across the business

** Experience in an Agile software environment (ideally SaaS)
