UX Researcher

East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire | £35,000 - £45,000 | Permanent

Published: 16.04.24 Ref: BBBH46898_1713274393

A successful software house in East Kilbride is looking to add a UX Researcher to the team. The company decided to modernise their product offerings by moving from desktop to cloud a few years. This digital transformation has gone really well and overall, the business has been doing great. They've got an exciting couple years ahead with new product releases coming up, intriguing collaborations with other companies in the sector and continuous improvements on existing products.

In terms of their design function, they're in a really interesting spot. Having introduced design-led thinking into the business a few years back, they've really seen it come into fruition over the last year or so and with that, the business has invested more and more into design. With this, they've expanded the team a few times and are now looking for a specialist UX Researcher to join as well.

As an organisation, they're one of the best at bringing graduate/junior talent in and investing into upskilling them but for this role, they're ideally looking for someone that can come in and hit the ground running. You will be joining a design team of 5 people and will be the companies first out and out UX Researcher. The Designers in the team have a mix of skills - some are more UX Design focused, and others are more UI Design focused. They all understand the importance of research and can do their bit within research but none of them are specialist UX Researchers, which is where you will come in to play.

As their first UX Researcher, you'll have a good amount of autonomy in terms of the research function. You'll be championed to apply and conduct whatever research method you think is best for whatever business problem you're trying to solve. The company have a lot of research-heavy work in the pipeline, so you'll have the opportunity to get involved in a lot of different stuff over the next few years.

As mentioned, the company have very much embraced the importance of design and with that, design is not only embedded into the software but into other areas such as sales, marketing and more - as it should be! With this, you'll be exposed to lots of different areas of the business and get to work closely with many different team members, which should be music to any UX Researcher's ears.

In terms of someone's background, they are pretty flexible. As mentioned, they're looking for someone to come in and hit the ground running, so they're looking for someone that already has some commercial experience behind them. They do have a preference for someone that has experience working in a product environment as that will help someone settle in the role a bit quicker. Personality-wise, they're looking for someone that is a good problem solver and someone that enjoys collaboration - as a business, this is something they're huge on, so they'd expect you to have a similar mindset. The design function has done really well to drive the culture from design, and they'd want you to continue to help drive this.

As mentioned, the company are based in East Kilbride but can be pretty flexible in terms of working. It's definitely not a fully remote role and they will expect some office commitment. If you're in the area, then they'd expect you to be in the office 2-3 times per week but if you're a bit further afield then they can be more flexible than this. They do have on-site team meetings a couple of times per month, which you'd be expected to attend. Salary on offer for the role is up to £45,000, which comes with a strong benefits package including a bonus scheme (10-15%), private healthcare and a good number of holidays.

If you're a UX Researcher that wants to work for a software company that truly sees the importance in design, then please apply and/or contact Jack Steven at Cathcart Technology.

He is the most honest, thorough and experienced recruitment consultant I have ever dealt with. If he can’t help you, he’ll tell you rather than spinning a yarn and putting you forward for jobs that aren’t suitable.

Technical Author – Edinburgh

She even was able to help get a firmer offer as I was offered two roles on the same day. I felt she went over and above to get the best offer she could for me without selling myself short.

QA Engineer – Glasgow

He goes out of his way to ensure you are prepared for your interview and I particularly appreciated his professional no nonsense approach to working with me to find a new position.

Infrastructure Architect – Glasgow

Compared to other recruiters I have worked with she seemed genuinely interested in helping me with my job search rather than just fulfilling quotas.

Software Developer – Lincoln

I can say with total sincerity I’ve never dealt with a more professional, knowledgeable and personable recruitment firm in fifteen years of contracting. They helped my wife and I relocate to Edinburgh with our five month old son and it’s in no small part to their tips and recommendations that we’ve settled in so quickly.

Transformation Consultant – Leeds

Never have a I met a recruiter like him, who embeds himself in the community so thoroughly in a way that could only be genuine. From our conversations, he has shown an understanding of the industry I would expect from a local CTO.

MI Analyst – Bolton

Absolutely fantastic throughout my interview process, and I cannot recommend him highly enough! First of all, he is an absolutely brilliant communicator and extremely reliable. On top of all of his brilliant recruitment skills, it was amazing to see how genuinely excited he was for me when I received my offer. This truly conveyed to me how much he cares about his clients.

Software Engineer – Edinburgh

It was a breath of fresh air – She is professional and approachable and will be there to help you every step of the way. Other recruiters give you the hard sell and the ‘best friend routine’ to get you on board and then just leave you guessing, but not here… She’s the real deal

Solutions Architect – Glasgow

A friend looking after me, that’s how I felt. His friendly character made the whole process way easier and enjoyable, he also managed to get me one of the most interesting work opportunities. I’m really glad our paths have crossed.

Software Engineer - Edinburgh

She was friendly, communicative and informative, talked me through the process and gave me good advice at every stage.

Software Engineer – Manchester

I have had dealings with the majority of recruitment agencies in this country and beyond. He really stands out from the crowd and the IT industry would benefit from more people like him.

Software Developer – Glasgow

THE BEST test recruiter I’ve had the pleasure of working with, from start to finish. She provided me with training resources and is an organiser and participant in testing events. She really has taken the time to fully understand the testing principles.

Test Analyst – Aberdeen

He stood out in a world of poorly informed, unreliable and frankly annoying recruiters as a breath of fresh air.

Data Scientist – Manchester

Equal parts friendly and professional, never once coming across as simply going through the motions and made the whole thing as painless as possible for all parties

Software Developer – Glasgow

I’ve never written a recommendation for a recruiter before, so it must show how impressed I am!
